Established in 1874 by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the National Museum Bangkok is the first public museum in Thailand and one of the largest museum complexes in Southeast Asia. Set within the historic 18th-century grounds of the former Front Palace (Wang Na), the museum presents a comprehensive journey through Thai art, cultural history, and archaeology from prehistoric civilizations to the Rattanakosin kingdom.

  • Permanent galleries feature masterworks across all major historical periods—including Dvaravati, Srivijaya, Lopburi (Khmer), Sukhothai, and Ayutthaya sculpture—as well as royal regalia, ceremonial palanquins, the Phra Buddha Sihing statue in Buddhaisawan Chapel, musical instruments, and the monumental Royal Funeral Chariots (Chariot Hall).
