This elegant flower opens once a year, and only at midnight, much to the anticipation of her close neighbours, who would all join in as they watched the flowers' unbelievable displays. “Tán huā yī xiàn\" [曇花一現] is a thing, meaning ‘the flower vanishes as soon as it appears’, or that it appears once, briefly, and short-lived. The flower was not native to Singapore, where Jennifer was born and raised, but it felt so to her. It was not a fairy tale from the beginning. When she was a child, she used to stare in horror, as no fewer than thirteen flowers would unfurl all at once, right before her very eyes. Jennifer called them “monster flowers”, as she never knew plants could move so quickly. The fear dissipated over time and turned into admiration. This work recalls the strangely beautiful experience of watching the ‘Queen of the Night’ bloom in their own time, and the realisation that the privilege of witnessing such sublimity only belongs to those who are patient and still, and present in those quiet, fleeting moments.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Jennifer Ng Art","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":63955090669898,"sku":null,"price":3330.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1049\/3011\/5914\/files\/third_space_queen_of_the_night_revists_in_the_cold.jpg?v=1792183350","url":"https:\/\/www.asianartbridge.com\/products\/queen-of-the-night-revisits-in-the-cold","provider":"Asian Art Bridge Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
