Founded in 1980 and housed within the historic 18th-century monastery of the Augustinian Fathers (Real Colegio de Padres Agustinos Filipinos), the Museo Oriental holds one of the most significant and comprehensive collections of East Asian and Philippine art in Spain. The collection originated from cultural, artistic, and ethnographic items brought back by Spanish Augustinian missionaries who lived and worked across the Philippines, China, and Japan starting in the 16th century.

  • Organized across 18 specialized halls divided into three primary sections: ancient to modern Chinese art (featuring bronzes, jade, imperial porcelain, coins, and silk embroidery), Philippine cultural heritage and colonial art (including rare 17th- to 19th-century religious ivories, weapons, and folk crafts), and Japanese art (showcases of samurai armor, katana, ukiyo-e woodblock prints, and lacquerware).
