Originating in 1933 as the Preparatory Office of the National Central Museum initiated by Cai Yuanpei, Nanjing Museum is one of China’s first large-scale comprehensive museums and ranks among the country's top national institutions.   • Houses over 400,000 cultural relics spanning the Paleolithic period to contemporary times. Highlights include imperial Ming and Qing porcelain, early jade and bronze artifacts, Southern Dynasties brick relief murals, traditional Jiangsu crafts, and an immersive life-sized recreation of an early-20th-century streetscape in the Republic of China Hall.
