In September 2025, two works from The Red Passports series by Afghan artist Mohsin Tassha were acquired by MUCEM – Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée in Marseille for its permanent collection. A major milestone in the artist’s career.
Based in Marseille, Mohsin Tassha sees this acquisition as a meaningful anchoring in the city and a natural connection of his work to the Mediterranean — a region shaped by migration, exchange, and shared histories.
Originally from Afghanistan, a land historically linked to the Silk Road, his practice explores themes of exile, displacement, and resilience. These narratives strongly resonate with the Mediterranean as a crossroads of civilizations and human trajectories.
This acquisition is part of the research-based project The Making of Visual Creation in Exile and accompanies the exhibition Kharmohra: Art Under Fire in Afghanistan, presented at MUCEM, Marseille, France.
Through nearly sixty works, the exhibition highlights a generation of Afghan artists who, despite war, violence, and attacks on cultural spaces, continue to create and resist through art.
Mohsin Tassha’s entry into MUCEM’s permanent collection not only affirms the strength of his artistic vision but also places his work within an essential dialogue on exile, memory, and artistic creation in times of crisis.
In addition, Mohsin Tassha’s works are available on the Asian Art Bridge platform, offering collectors and art lovers the opportunity to discover and collect his work.
